When I was young and it was my nightly job to set the dinner table, we only used silver cutlery. This was probably because we didn't get a dishwasher until my teenage years. Then the stainless steel became more popular. I missed the feel of the weight and smoothness of silver and the look of the beautiful kings pattern on the handles.
